The Middleton Top Engine and Leawood Pump Group has been awarded a Commendation in the Derbyshire Greenwatch Awards 2005.
The award was made for our work on relining the non-return valves on the Leawood Pump.
The wooden blocks which form the valve seats had rotted, thus allowing the water in the canal to flow back to the river through the pumphouse.
Many evenings have been spent by the volunteers in damp, cold & cramped working conditions to replace approximately 400 individual elm blocks.
